SAG-AFTRA Holiday Party
Dec. 8, 2016
Tonight was the annual SAG-AFTRA Holiday Party. Other years, I had brought a guest with me and just partied, but this year I opted to volunteer to work it. I felt I'd have more fun that way.
I was assigned to be a greeter and show people which line to get in -- the confirmed reservation line or the wait line. Everyone would get in, but those with reservations would get in first. This was the best job for me because I got to talk to everyone as they arrived. And also, as they stood in line, waiting for the go-ahead into the party.
My station was right there by the lit Christmas tree with its polar bears, penguins and igloo. I love the polar bears and the igloo and was glad to see this scene return for this Christmas as well. Just looking at the polar bears standing on their hind legs, gazing into the distance, warms my heart.
We also had bins for donated food to give to the Homeless and unwrapped toys for the Kids. And it was nice to see how many people walked in with bags for the food and toy drives. Once everybody was in the party, my job was done and I was able to mingle and chat with people. What was also nice was that I had now expanded my horizons a bit and those whom I talked to while they were in line now had a warm smile and a word for me as I passed by.
There was a photographer who took our photos, as seen at the top of this post and he was supposed to email us the photo. I never got it. I thought my email was correct when I looked at it, but something must have been off. I had to take a scan of the Polaroid we were given in order to post it here.
As always, a fun way to end the year. And I was glad I decided to volunteer. I had so much fun dealing with those waiting in the lines. Will probably try to do so again next year.
