Finding "The Lost City of Cecil B. DeMille"

Sept. 23, 2017

Today we went to the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood to support a film produced by my friend DAN COPLAN, called THE LOST CITY OF CECIL B. DeMILLE.

Apparently Cecil B. DeMille recreated Ancient Egypt for his TEN COMMANDMENTS movie in the middle of the central California coast in 1923. This was one of the biggest movie sets in the silent era. But when he finished filming, he didn't want to haul it back to Hollywood so they dismantled it and buried it right there.

This documentary traces DIRECTOR PETER BROSNAN's 30-year quest to unearth the site, amid such problems as uncooperative permit people. It's an interesting documentary told with a great sense of humor. And I thoroughly enjoyed looking at it.

Before the film we got to see some of the recovered artifacts from the film.

After the film, we were treated to a Q&A with Director Peter Brosnan, producer Dan Coplan, composer STEVE BAUMAN, archaeologist COLLEEN HAMILTON, and actress LISA MITCHELL (from the 1956 version.

Glad I was able to come out to see and support this interesting film.
